Won’t Go To Heaven
‘Part of the deal with these zines is to create something limited and special, but in a print form’
Michael Goldrei makes photos (if you don’t know his work, you can start by reading his interview for Travelling Light Club).
He also happen to make limited edition zines with intriguing titles: ‘The Fourth Man’ (about his series on Prater: Vienna’s Funfair) or ‘Petrol, Pastels and Piña Coladas’ (about his 16 day trip to Cuba, filled with pastel-coloured buildings, rum-based cocktails, vintage American cars and real cowboys.)
As Michael says, the idea with these limited edition zines is ‘to create something limited and special, but in a print form. I had planned to make them anyway, but now I feel this is even more important as a backlash against NFTs’.
Lucky for us, he's just released ‘Won’t Go to Heaven’, a new zine about the graffiti of the Sex Pistols.
Here is an extract of Michael’s story on this series:
’On a short street in the outskirts of London’s Soho, a vast musical history exists within its walls. The Sex Pistols lived and recorded there. I’d heard that Johnny Rotten had adorned the walls there with graffiti of the band and its associates, so decided to try and gain access to photograph them. In 2015 I pleaded with the building’s manager to get access to the room and was told to come back another time. I tried again a week later, and was told the same thing. This happened a few times until, either he took pity on me or I’d worn him down. But, either way… I was in!
To have a look and buy any of these zines (signed and numbered), it’s right here on Michael Goldrei’s website.
